1/4/11 Oneida Lake Ice Fishing Report

The warm new years weekend weather did not totally destroy the ice so we should be fine. Down here anyway we have missed the recent lake effect snows so the ice is making ice daily and not being insulated by a blanket of white.
The fishing in big bay has been a little off though since last weeks warm spell hit. Bluegills and crappies and big sunfish are still being caught but they are coming alot slower than they were a week and a half ago. The small jig and a wax worm seem to be the most consistent producer. Hot colors on the bay as of late, chart and orange, orange and black, red glow/ green glow, all purple glow. Lite lines and sensative rods or spring bobbers are key to knowing when you are getting bit.
I am hearing that the walleye bite off of constantia has heated up dramatically in the last couple of days. tip ups and shiner minnows are out performing jigs, especially early in the day but kastmasters later on in the day are catching them too.
I have heard scattered reports from Caz about good fishing for big gills and good catches of nice perch from Fair haven. I will pass more details when I get them.
We are open 7 days a week at 6am and open until 6pm m-f and 4pm on the weekends.
Thanks
Matt
PS, I am back buying fish
