1/12/2011 Oneida Lake Ice Fishing Report

The gill bite picked back up again this morning on Big Bay and they are some big fish too. Glow thunder jigs and Nitro Glow Caty Jigs were kicking gill butt today.
The Perch and Walleye bite is literally on fire right now off of Constantia. Ive seen the buckets of big Perch that have come from 8 fow-25 fow and the eyes are right with them. One IS guy who shall remain nameless brought me a beautiful limit pail of Perch that he took in less than 10fow from out around the Islands off of Constantia. He also had a 22″ Walleye, lost another one, caught a 4″ short and saw many other ones on his camera in a very unlikely area. The perch and the toothy perch are running together and he found success on small jigging raps. Another friend had a limit of eyes and half a limit of perch off the south side of Grassy Island only after he downsized the Kastmaster he was using. Everything is coming with either plain buckeyes or Heavy metal tipped with a buckeye. I have also seen good catches of Perch that have come off Chapman Park recently. Im hearing that they are still catching walleyes off of edgewater but you have to weed through the burbot.
We are still open 7 days a week from 6a-6p mon- fri and 6a-4p sat & sun.
Thanks
Matt

  1. THANK-YOU for for info. I’m new to this wonderful experience of Ice
fishing and really need the honest guidance. I have a question for you if you feel like answering it. When I jig for perch/walleyes what do I use. When you speak of Raps what are you referring to? Thanks Again with your help I might catch more than COLD fingers. Mike Lynch

    • hey mike, when they say raps they are referring to rapala jigging raps. some good lures for perch are northland mimic minnows, small swedish pimples, small kastmasters, bros bloodworms, shrimpos, ratsos etc.
